Greek Life

Greek life serves as an extracurricular experience for thousands of men and women across the country. Membership in a Greek organization can help personalize the college experience by offering:

  • Close friendships
  • Scholastic encouragement
  • Experiential leadership opportunities
  • Skills that include managing budgets and planning events
  • Exposure to potential careers through educational programs and discussions with alumni
  • The chance to serve the community through a multitude of projects.

Student life at the University of Richmond has included Greek life since 1870. There are six internationally affiliated Greek-letter men's fraternities and eight internationally affiliated Greek-letter women's sororities represented on campus. Sorority and fraternity members use either lodges or meeting rooms for chapter meetings and social gatherings.

Over 1,000 men and women at the University of Richmond currently participate in Greek life, with chapters ranging in size from 15 to over 100 members. Through the University of Richmond Greek life experience, academic rigor is complimented by implementing theories, practices and life situations into organizational leadership, ultimately contributing to developing a well-rounded person.
